What is a Doula

A Doula provides emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. Their purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience.

During delivery, doulas are in close proximity to the mother. They  provide comfort with pain-relief techniques including breathing techniques, relaxation techniques, massage, and laboring positions. Doulas encourage participation from the partner and offer reassurance.

A doula acts as an advocate for the mother, encouraging and helping her fulfill specific desires she might have for her birth. The goal of a doula is to help the mother experience a positive and safe birth, no matter what setting.

After birth, your doula may help with breastfeeding  and encouraging bonding between the new baby and other family members.

What to Expect From Our Clearwater Doula

Meka has given birth to 3 beautiful children both at home and in the hospital setting. Each with their own set of unique circumstances.

Not having any family around  for her labors, she understands how important it is to have support and someone to advocate for you. 

Services  include:

  • Birth plan assistance

  • Preparation in communicating more effectively with your care provider

  • Work with you and partner to prepare in the area of relaxation and coping techniques for the big birth-day

  • Support begins the moment you find out you are pregnant  and continues through to 3 months postpartum. 

  • Unlimited virtual (phone, text, email) communication from the moment you choose her.

  • Complete face to face support once labor begins

  • Prenatal and Postpartum visits

  • Lactation support and referral to additional resources if necessary

  • Assistance identifying additional providers such as photography, massage, pediatrician, belly casting.
